The buying journey is increasingly beginning inside Google's AI-generated search results, says Prominent Orange. Recent data from Visibility Labs found Google AI Overviews now appear in approximately 14% of shopping queries, reflecting a continued expansion across ecommerce searches.
For many retailers, however, that stage of the customer journey remains difficult to measure. Search rankings and website analytics show how shoppers discover a store through conventional channels, but not whether Google recommends a brand when consumers ask for product suggestions. That lack of visibility carries growing commercial implications too, the company notes. Reuters, citing Adobe Analytics, reported that retail visitors referred by large language models generated 53% more revenue per visit and were 54% more likely to complete a purchase than traditional visitors. As a result, Prominent Orange addresses this by testing 34 buyer questions, recording where retailers are recommended within Google AI Overview, identifying competing brands and compiling the findings into a report highlighting recommendation patterns and opportunities to strengthen AI visibility.
"Understanding why competitors are recommended can be just as valuable as knowing whether your own brand appears," the spokesperson added.
The platform also supports agencies and consultants managing ecommerce brands. Its white-label reporting option allows audits to be delivered under the agency's own branding, making AI recommendation reporting easier to integrate into existing client services.
